The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has given the green light for the ‘dumsor vigil’ to come off on May 16.

The vigil which is being spearheaded by award-winning actress, Yvonne Nelson is aimed at mounting pressure on government to urgently resolve the three-year energy crisis.

The group was granted the permission after meeting with the Police on Thursday.

Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Command, ASP Afia Tenge in an interview with Citi News urged both leaders and participants of the vigil to abide by the stipulated rules.

ASP Afia Tenge said: “It was a fruitful meeting, but we urged them to take into cognisance the ban of drumming and noise making.”

“They indicated to us that they [are] going to be law abiding and that they are not going on a demonstration, but only a peaceful walk to register their displeasure at the dumsor.”

ASP Tenge added that the ban on drumming and noise making should be strictly adhered so that the vigil will be a peaceful one.

On her part, the leader of the delegation, Yvonne Nelson emphasized the need for every Ghanaian to join the vigil.

She told Citi News that it will be a “quiet and peaceful vigil because of the ban on drumming and noise making. We want dumsor to end. Every Ghanaian must join us. The dumsor must stop.”

“Every Ghanaian must join us on Saturday, the 16th of May. They should come out with their candles, Bobo, Lentils, and anything they have. We just want our voices to be heard as Ghanaians. We deserve better. We will be starting at about three pm at the Legon specifically at ON the Run and March to Villagio,” she added.

We have witnessed a number of peaceful demonstrations aiming at this same "Dumsor" menace but all to no avail.... It makes me wonder whether the President and his associates acknowledge this persistent peaceful demonstrations all with the purpose of creating a platform for the voices of Ghanaians to be heard... It sometimes makes me feel that the government enjoys hearing demonstrations and see it as something normal....

Am glad that this "Dumsor vigil" is going to take place since it is aimed at mounting pressure on the Government to urgently resolve the three-year energy crisis which has has really made life very very unbearable.... People have lost their lives, their jobs, productivity is decreasing all because of this power crisis which continues to persist and torment Ghanaians for which am part...

Its a great initiative but the question still remains, Will this "Dumsor vigil" help resolve this tree-year energy crisis or in other words Can it help end "Dumsor" ???  I guess the answer is, No one knows ... These demonstrations keep going on as this menace exists yet nothing happens and we continue to suffer...

I pray that this time around, something positive comes up that will go a long way to putting this extremely devastating power crisis, "dumsor", to bed so that we live in peace... #DumsormustSTOP... #HACKGH4LIFE....
