Organisers of the upcoming #?dumsormuststop vigil have announced, On-The-Run, as the new venue for the event.

The change in venue became necessitated after authorities of the University of Ghana, initial venue for the vigil, rejected the use of the school’s campus for the protest against the power crisis.

Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie, DKB and other celebrities, announced their intention to hold a vigil to put pressure on the government to find a solution to the severe power crisis referred to locally as ‘Dumsor’.

The vigil, which is expected to be a peaceful procession by the celebrities and their fans with lit candles, torchlights, and lanterns, is an offshoot of a social media campaign #?dumsormuststop that Yvonne started last week.

Lawyers for Yvonne Nelson and Sarkodie wrote to the Greater Accra regional police command to inform them of the vigil. The police on Thursday gave the celebrities the green light to hold the vigil on May 16.

The letter stated the Univeristy of Ghana campus as the convergence point for the protesters but the University in a statement demanded "an immediate cessation of all mention of its name or campuses in relation or in connection with any such activity.”

This forced the organisers to look for alternative, settling on a venue very close to the university.

A statement by the organisers on Friday said the new assembling point for the vigil will be “ON-THE-RUN” (also known as Bonjour).

“All participants shall converge at “ON-THE-RUN” (also known as Bonjour) on the Legon Presec Road, towards the old main gate of the University of Ghana,” the statement said.

With organisers coming under constant attacks that they are doing the bidding of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), the statement insisted the event has nothing to do politics.

“The DumsorMustStop Vigil is a non-partisan event which seeks to give an amplified voice to the many Ghanaians who are afflicted by the phenomenon of DUMSOR,” Organisers said.

Meanwhile, award winning rapper Sarkodie has released a song, ‘Dumsor’, to vent his frustrations at the power crisis which has been lingering on for almost three years.
