Woyome case: Gov't conspired to loot state cssh - Kwadwo Mpiani 59952335

A former Chief of Staff in the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani says the acquittal and discharge of embattled businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome is “a conspiracy to chop government’s money”.

According to Mr Mpiani, government’s inability to produce witnesses who were initially involved in the case proves that they had plans of “looting the state and they have succeeded”.

Businessman Alfred Woyome was on March 12, 2015 freed by an Accra High Court.

He was standing trial for allegedly defrauding the state of Ghc51.2 million.

The controversial payment was made during the tenure of Betty Mould Iddrisu as Attorney General.

The state brought the criminal case against him after the Supreme Court ordered him to refund the money wrongfully paid him.

Justice Ajet-Nassam said the State failed to convince him that Woyome acquired the money fraudulently.

But the former Chief of Staff on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday said he was not surprised that the trial went in favour of Alfred Woyome.

“For what I know, I know that nothing showed that government had a contract with Woyome and so it is a full conspiracy to chop state money.

“My problem has to do with the fact that the state refused to provide evidence that would prove him guilty,” he quizzed.

Meanwhile, Mr Kwadwo Mpiani has called on government to review the compensation package for staff of the Attorney General's department to motivate them to work harder in protecting the State's interest.
