In most cases, one might try to access a system with password protection only to find out that they have forgotten it. Or maybe you want to access a pc that is not yours and you are blocked out.
Here are a few methods which can help you unlock the system.
For Windows 7
Method 1:
A. Force shutdown the pc when you see starting windows during boot. Restart the machine and you will be greeted with startup failure options. Select "Launch startup repair" and allow to complete scanning. It will find no problems, scroll down to find log text file. Click on it to open in notepad.
B. Click on file and browse to c:windows\sytem32. Rename sethc.exe to sethc.exe.bak. Duplicate cmd.exe and name it to sethc.exe. Now restart your machine and press shift 5 times at logon screen to bring up command prompt.
Type -
This will remove password and you can access system.
You can also replace * with any password you want.
Method 2: Boot from a windows installation disk or usb. select install windows. In partition menu select load drivers then browse drivers. It will open an explorer window and you can continue with B part of method 1 shown above.
For Windows 7/8/8.1
Download Konboot and use its installer to setup on CD or USB (Obviously on a different system). Power on problem machine and boot from usb. Follow on-screen prompts.
NB: Konboot only lets you access the system, so you would have to enter command prompt as administrator and enter above codes to reset or change your password.
PS: The good thing is.... with Konboot, you can access the system and leave it without making any changes. The PC owner won't know what hit him or even if he's been hit.
