‘Corrupt referees forced me to quit football management’ 77521233.295
Former Black Stars striker Tony Yeboah says the rate at which referees in this country are corrupt is alarming and detrimental to the development of the game in the country.

The former Hamburg stars who owns Yegoala FC says he has lost count of the number of times referees approach him before games asking for money to rule in favour of his side.

Yeboah says this unpleasant experience has played a role in him calling it quit with lower division football.

“I am very much relieved to have stopped doing football in Ghana. It has taken the pressure off my finances,” Yeboah told Accra-based Happy FM.

“On every match day, referees come to my hotel for asking for money in order to officiate my matches fairly.

“I use to tell them to go and do their work diligently and that even if my team ends up losing, I will give them money for a good job done.

“These are the reasons why I stopped doing football in this country.

“We cannot move forward if this is going to continue.”
