Ghanaians living in Canada want to raise funds to support Ghana’s U20 ladies team at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, according to reports.

A group of churches and Muslims are ready to contribute their widow's mite to help support the team financially.

This gesture is meant to motivate the players-who have not been paid their qualifications bonus-to punch above their weight and progress from the Group.

“It is true we are doing something to support the team. During their first game with Canada, we realized the team’s jersey was not attractive,” Nadia Mohammed, a Ghanaian based in Canada is quoted by www.sportsscrusader.com

“One Nana Manu here said he could have sponsored the team with more attractive jerseys if he had known before the tournament. So we then decided that we would come together as a community to raise some money to support the team.

“So far we have 25 Ghanaian Churches here in Canada who are organizing the fund-raising. Some Muslim brothers here are also ready to support the agenda.”

Ghana won their opener against hosts Canada 1-0 but were clobbered 3-0 by former champions Korea DPR.

The Princesses will have to win their final Group A match on Tuesday against Finland to stand a chance of qualifying.
