Sodom & Gomorrah demolition may benefit NDC in 2016 – Ephson 86729846

Pollster Ben Ephson has downplayed fears that the demolition of the Old Fadama slum will affect the electoral fortunes of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections.

The Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has incurred the wrath of NDC executives at the Odododiodio constituency in Accra for displacing thousands of people at the slum popularly known as Sodom and Gomorrah.

They walked out of a meeting with the mayor following the violent protest by the displaced residents.

But the editor of the Dispatch newspaper told Starr News government has more time to justify its actions to the aggrieved victims and win their votes in the upcoming elections.

“The luck for the ruling government is the fact that this has happened 17 months to elections. If elections were being held this year, it would be big enough to tilt the election towards the NPP.

“But if within 6 to 8 months people are resettled and more importantly, if it does not become a nine day wonder; if it is sustained, you will be surprised that you could get floating voters across the country deciding to reward the NDC government for being forthright and bold. So it is a very dicey situation which the government could benefit,” he said.
