Elorm Adablah, known in show business as EL has said his song, ‘State of the Nation’ was an “audacious” song released out of frustration.
He argued that there is a limit to which citizens can tolerate the deplorable socio-economic condition exiting in the country.
“Sometimes your cup runs over, sometimes, you tolerate, you tolerate, you tolerate and you are like chale, this is too much, I have to say something about it,” he remarked on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday.
EL is one of the few Ghanaian entertainers who have been vocal about the current state of the nation.
These vocal entertainers have been accused of being sympathizers and supporters of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) but according to EL, he is in no way bothered by such assumptions.
According to him, he is a citizen of Ghana “and so no matter how much I try to dodge the repercussions of the decisions that government makes, it still affects me directly or indirectly in a certain form or the other.I am an active participant in whatever goes on in this world, in this country.”
He said, he expressed his frustrations through his music because “I express myself the best way through music. I am a creative person so which better way to express myself than to do it lyrically and to do it musically?”
EL disclosed that despite being unconcerned about being tagged as a supporter of a political party for airing his views, his parents worry.
“My parents, when they hear you talk about stuff that pertains to government and stuff like that, they get really jittery but sometimes, you have to be audacious enough and think outside the box and try and make your statement heard,” he said.
The ‘Kaalu’ rapper said his background in political science makes governance an emotional topic for him.
“You know I did political science in school so it’s very emotional for me when I start talking about stuff that pertains to the way this country is being governed.”
“I was just at a point where I felt like I had to contribute, I had to add my voice to the people out there so I had to say something about what I thought the whole nation was going through,” he added.
He indicated that his work gives him the opportunities to travel to other countries “and I see the way things work out there and when you come back here, it’s a whole other story and it’s a little frustrating most of the time.”
“Contrasting my experiences, it’s like why can’t we just have working traffic lights or why doesn’t my elevator work because my studio is on the fifth floor of a building and people dormant want to climb five floors so I’m losing business and it’s really frustrating at a point in time and I felt I had to talk about it.”
Asked how he got into music, EL responded; “Life happens. You get to a point in your life where you have to cross roads where you have to make a decision about what you want to do with the rest of your life. I got to that point and I chose to follow my passion and to do music.”
He revealed that he used to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as in some software development companies “but at the end of the day, what I realized was I was happy about where I was headed so I decided to make a turn-around and here we are.”
EL indicated that doing music has “paid off to satisfaction but there is always more room for improvement. Human beings are never satisfied; we are always want more, we always strife to be the best that we can be and to over ourselves so that is what I am doing right now.”
