Okyeame Kwame goes back to school

When hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwame, made known his intention to become a doctor in academia sometime ago, many were those who doubted the ambition of the 'Woso' rapper.

But it seems the multiple award winning artiste meant his words at the time.

Just last week, the 2010 Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year winner was spotted on the premises of the Business School of the University of Ghana, Legon.

His mission? Okyeame Kwame is part of the first batch of 36 MA students pursuing the newly introduced Marketing Strategy course.

Throwing light on his new endeavour, the Rap Dacta told Showbiz on Tuesday that “I believe education and the acquisition of knowledge is very important to improve my art so pursuing higher learning is just one of the many ways to achieve that goal,”

Apart from his music career which he is sure to get better with the new knowledge he will acquire, Okyeame Kwame hopes to develop business ideas to run his company.

He said that even though his education might interrupt his career, he has put in place measures to keep himself relevant on the music scene during the year- long study.

“I have a competent management team to handle affairs when I’m busy with school activities. Besides, I have recorded many songs which I intend to release occasionally.

I also have some videos I have shot so it is not as if I will be lost in the system,” he stated.

When asked if this was a move towards achieving his Doctorate degree, the 'Woara' artiste replied, “Yes, that is right. The journey to become an academic doctor has just begun”.

That's very good. I think Okyeame Kwame is a different kind of artiste. Most of them are very complacent and refuse to learn. Learning must not be stopped no matter who is involved. It is said that "You begin to die the moment you stop learning". People should be putting themselves to the task of learning a new skill or enrolling in a course ever now and then. Information is key in this age.
