A Dormaa Circuit Court has sentenced a 70 year– old cobbler, Kwadwo Adu to seven years in jail for defiling a 10-year- old girl.

Adu pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Inspector Abraham Oduro, told the court presided over by Mr. Ahmed Yusif Asibey that the complainant is the victim’s father, whereas the accused person is a cobbler and a labourer, all resident in Kofibadukrom, a suburb of Dormaa Municipality.

He said the victim, is a class two pupil of the Nana Kyeraa Preparatory School, at Kofibadukrom.

Inspector Oduro said on February 15, 2015, a street jam was organised in Kofibadukrom Township which attracted a lot children to the scene.

He said a witness then spotted, the accused person standing with the victim in a dark corner around 2200 hours and accordingly informed the victim’s mother.

The mother immediately went in search of the victim but met her on the way, upon questioning; the victim’s mother noticed that the victim had something in her mouth.

Upon further enquiries, the victim brought out an amount of Gh¢0.70p from her mouth and claimed that, it was given to her by the accused person after having sexual intercourse with her.

A report was made to the Police and the accused person was arrested and detained. During investigations, the victim confided in the Police that, the accused had sexual intercourse with her on February 14, this year.

The Prosecutor said the, accused confessed to the crime, but said, he only inserted his finger into the victim’s vagina and attributed it to temptation.

After investigations, the accused was charged with the offence.
