Almost all data from the main game have changed since first release, so

release is standalone, you do not need the any other release to play
If you want to play the main game without the Enemy Within DLC, launch the Game with BinariesWin32XComGame.exe
To play the DLC, launch the game with shortcut created with the installer or by XEWBinariesWin32XComEW.exe
