A major blackout has hit Ghana’s Parliament forcing proceedings to come to a halt on Wednesday.
This comes just a day after the Finance Minister; Seth Terkper reiterated government’s promise to fix the prevailing power crisis during his mid-year budget review presentation in Parliament.
Citi News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Richard Dela Sky reported that the MPs were debating an important loan agreement put before the House for approval when the power outage occurred.
The situation, he said forced the presiding Speaker, Ebo Barton Oduro to suspend proceedings until the power problem is resolved.
A few months ago after a similar incident, the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho constituted a committee to investigate the crippling power problem which was affecting the House.
The committee was later expected to submit a report to the House.
Richard Sky however reported that the said committee “did not sit even once therefore they did not even investigate let alone submit any report to the House for consideration.”
