Mr Edward Kpornu, Chief Executive Officer of BC Global Foundation, a non- governmental organisation (NGO), has called on Ghanaians to see blood donation as something critical for the society.
Mr Kpornu made the call when the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with BC Global Foundation, a NGO dedicated to health issues, organised a blood donation exercise as part of activities to mark this year’s World Blood Donors Day.
The exercise is being organised to support the Tema General Hospital Blood Bank as well as to support the victims of the June 3 flood and fire disasters at Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Mr Kpornu said he was happy that the wrong perceptions some Ghanaians hold, that when one donates blood it negatively affect the individual, is changing.
Dr John Yabani, the Tema Metro Health Director, called on all able bodied Ghanaians to donate blood to save lives.
He said interested individuals, religious bodies and organisations, could approach the Health Directorate or the Tema General Hospital if they want to donate blood.
