Popular Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has revealed that her mobile handset was hacked and spied on during her #Dumsormuststop campaign of 2015.

The campaign, which was to call for an end to Ghana’s energy crisis at the time, saw Miss Nelson lead some known Ghanaian faces for series of calls on and offline, with an eventual walk on May 16, 2015 to drum home their point.

A year on, Miss Nelson has spoken of some of the challenges she faced as leader of the campaign, which was largely successful.

In an interview with Kweku Sakyi Addo on his Friday night show on Starr FM, The Lounge, Miss Nelson said her phone was hacked by persons who thought her crusade was bad news.

The revelation drew a surprise cut on the face of Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, who was also on the show, suggesting to her it’s false her phone was hacked.

Miss Nelson rebutted and insisted she wouldn’t make up the claim.

A year after calls grew for an end to the situation, the country is back at grappling with power issues. Subtly, there is an ongoing unannounced power rationing exercise.

There have been calls for a definite time table. Officialdom is yet to respond, but have rather blamed it on unfulfilled partner promises of key energy generations inputs.

Dumsor vigil is a joke – Nzema Chief - Tue May 26, 2015 9:19 am

The Paramount Chief of Western Nzema traditional area Awulae Annor Adjaye III has described actress Yvonne Nelson led protest dubbed #Dumsormuststop vigil as a joke.

Speaking at a public event organised by pressure group Occupy Ghana at the GNAT Hall in Takoradi over the weekend, Awulae Adjaye questioned the motive behind the protest.

“You want to make a revolution and want to address dumsor and you take one day to the streets and you think it will be solved? It can’t be solved! If President [John] Mahama can’t fix it and you want to show him that he can’t fix it, stay in the streets for one month; don’t go home, don’t sleep, don’t eat, die in the streets – that is revolution,” he asked.

He said for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to take the populace seriously, the youth in particular must stage a sustained revolution to attract the attention of the president to deal with the power crisis confronting Ghana.

A group of celebrities including actress Yvonne Nelson, EL, DKB and Edem led thousands of Ghanaians a few days ago in a protest march dubbed #Dumsormuststop vigil to drum home the need to solve immediately, the crisis.

But the John Mahama-led administration has promised to fix the erratic electricity supply by the end of 2015 as it expects two power barges from Turkey to address the deficit in megawatts in the national grid.

Afro gypsy musician Wanlov The Kubolor has suggested the need for Ghanaian celebrities to stage another demonstration against government’s handling of the power crisis but says the next one ought to be staged at the Flagstaff House in Accra, Ghana’s official seat of government.

He said there should be further demonstrations to exert more pressure on the John Mahama-led government to fix the ongoing power crisis.

Last week Saturday, Wanlov joined some of the country’s famous celebrities and the public at a big vigil held to remind government of the extent to which the crisis is affecting the country.

The event was led by popular actress Yvonne Nelson and other celebrities such as Van Vicker, DKB, Prince David Osei, E.L, D Black, Efya and a host of others.

It started as a procession from the bridge at the University of Ghana and ended at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, with participants carrying lanterns, torch lights, and candles among other, to symbolise dumsor in their homes.

Wanlov said that he attended the vigil because he was also affected by the dumsor.

According to him, should government refuse to fix the power crisis, the seat of government would be the next venue for a #DumsorMustStop vigil.

“If the dumsor doesn’t stop, I think the next vigil will be held at the Flagstaff House,” he told Multi TV.

Wanlov is one of the Ghanaian musicians who have been vocal on the worsened power crisis. He now walks in town with an ECG branded helmet to show his frustration.

Ghanaian Rapper, Sarkodie has commended his colleagues for holding a successful protest against the crippling power crisis.

Sarkodie, who was one of the main organisers of the event and had supported Yvonne Nelson since she began her campaign on social media had to trade the ‘dumsor’ vigil to record an album with famous American rapper Ace Hood in the United States.

The two-time VGMA artiste of the year in a statement explained that: “a rather tight working schedule in the United States made it impossible for me to be physically present at the gathering.”

Below are details of the statement released by Sarkodie

Yesterday a bold statement was made. #dumsormuststop went from being just a social media awareness creation campaign to something we are all now proud of.

History has been created, your way, our way.

To Yvonne Nelson, my other colleagues who joined, and the rest of the team that put this together, I want to say a big congratulations.

A rather tight working schedule in the United States made it impossible for me to be physically present at the gathering.

Long live the good people of this country.

Together let’s continue to push for an end to the current electricity supply crisis.

Ras Mubarak taunts Yvonne Nelson - Sun May 10, 2015 1:11 pm

Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA) Ras Mubarak has mocked actress Yvonne Nelson for her failure to secure a venue to organise an “easy” event such as her #dumsormuststop vigil, which is meant to put pressure on the Mahama Government to fix the three-year-old power crisis facing the country.

Both University of Ghana, Legon and Total, owners of On-The-Run have declined, in turns, the use of their premises as the converging point for the vigil.

“Please note that our Company, Total Petroleum Ghana Limited, which is the owner of the said location, has not been contacted for any such programme and would, therefore, request the general public to disregard the announcements running on various media,” Olivier Van Parys, managing director of Total Petroleum Ghana Limited, said in a statement less than 24 hours after the University of Ghana had also issued a similar notice.

They said the organisers never engaged them to make a formal request for the use of their premises before associating them with it in the media.

The Organisers, according to reports intend converging within the Tetteh Quarshie enclave due to the latest development, a situation which Mubarak says exposes the cluelessness of the actress.

“What a show of cluelessness? These noises about dumsor are coming from a girl who would make a drum out of the skin of her own mother in order to sound her own praises. U can't get your act together for something as easy as seeking permission to use a venue, yet you would insult people who are running a country? U must not be a genius to know that you need permission to use someone's premises - public or private - for your events,” he wrote on Facebook.

Three popular Ghanaian screen icons – Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie and Lydia Forson – are championing the vigil to put pressure on the John Mahama-led administration to solve the erratic supply of electricity which has lingered on for close to three years.

The vigil dubbed #dumsormuststop is expected to come off May 16.

Ghanaian celebrities to lead the #DumsorMustStop vigil are Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie, Lydia Forosn, DKB, Ama K Abebrese, Eddie Watson, D-Black, Nikki Samonas and many others.

Police approves ‘dumsor vigil’ - Sun May 10, 2015 6:37 am

We have witnessed a number of peaceful demonstrations aiming at this same "Dumsor" menace but all to no avail.... It makes me wonder whether the President and his associates acknowledge this persistent peaceful demonstrations all with the purpose of creating a platform for the voices of Ghanaians to be heard... It sometimes makes me feel that the government enjoys hearing demonstrations and see it as something normal....

Am glad that this "Dumsor vigil" is going to take place since it is aimed at mounting pressure on the Government to urgently resolve the three-year energy crisis which has has really made life very very unbearable.... People have lost their lives, their jobs, productivity is decreasing all because of this power crisis which continues to persist and torment Ghanaians for which am part...

Its a great initiative but the question still remains, Will this "Dumsor vigil" help resolve this tree-year energy crisis or in other words Can it help end "Dumsor" ???  I guess the answer is, No one knows ... These demonstrations keep going on as this menace exists yet nothing happens and we continue to suffer...

I pray that this time around, something positive comes up that will go a long way to putting this extremely devastating power crisis, "dumsor", to bed so that we live in peace... #DumsormustSTOP... #HACKGH4LIFE....

Audio: Sarkodie sings about ‘Dumsor’ - Fri May 08, 2015 8:59 pm

2012 BET Awards winner, Michael Owusu Addo (popularly known as Sarkodie), has released a new song titled ‘Dumsor’.

The song which was released on Thursday night talks about the excessive power rationing Ghanaians are currently facing.

Few days ago, the Tema-based rapper joined a social media campaign dubbed #DumsorMustStop which was initiated by Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson. The campaign seeks to call on the Ghanaian government to fix the country’s energy crisis.

It is in this direction that Sarkodie has released this new song. Among other things, he talks about how people cannot properly plan their lives due to how the country is messed up. "All I'm saying is if nobody stands up to talk about issues that bother Ghanaians, the country is going to remain the same," he spoke out in the song.

The rapper also used the opportunity to debunk news hovering around that he's been given money by the main opposition political party to talk down the achievements of the NDC government.

Kumawood actress, Mercy Asiedu has revealed that the local movie industry has started sinking as a result of the persistent power fluctuations.

“Producers have stopped producing many new movies of late…they are not working [because] prospective buyers do not patronize the movies all due to the lack of lights to even watch when they buy…,” she said in interview with Adom News’ Kwaku Adu-Kumi.

Icons in the arts and entertainment industry including rapper Sarkodie and actresses, Yvonne Nelson and Lydia Forson have in recent times complained of the effects of the power crisis.

While Yvonne claimed the President has continuously been lying to the Ghanaian public on the issue, Lydia Forson on the hand believes the President was always acting as a school kid who always had his answers wrong.

Not happy with this description given the first gentleman of the land by the female celebrities, a former aide of the Chief of Staff and an NDC communication team member, Alhaji Halidu Haruna took to facebook to describe the local celebrities as ‘prostitutes’. He has since apologized.

But this did not prevent the celebrities from taking the #Dumsormuststop campaign further with the latest being the declaration of the holding of a vigil on May 16 to practically register their displeasure.

The vigil, the local movie actress said was spot on as the ‘power crises is affecting everyone in the country.’

As some Ghanaian celebrities are gearing up to hold a vigil on May 16 to put pressure on the government to find a solution to the current power crisis, President John Mahama has been invited to join the event.

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, together with rapper Sarkodie and some other celebrities are expect to hit the streets on May 16 to register their frustrations with the current power crises popularly known as ‘Dumsor’.

Lawyers for Yvonne Nelson and Sarkodie have written to the Greater Accra regional command to inform them of a vigil the entertainment personalities are planning to hold on the date.

The vigil, which will be a peaceful possession by the celebrities and their fans with lit candles, torches, and lanterns, is an off shoot of a social media campaign #?dumsormuststop that the actress started last week.

Actress Ama K Abebrese, who says she is joining the vigil, has extended an invitation to the president of the country to join the May 16 event.

The award winning actress sent the invitation to the president via her twitter page Tuesday.

“President @JDMahama.The #dumsormuststop #virgil takes place on May 16th. Your humbly invited to join us. Cc @yvonnenelsongh @sarkodie,” she said.

Last week Yvonne Nelson granted the BBC an interview in which she said the nation was in a paralysis because of the persistent and pervasive power cuts popularly called, 'dumsor.

She had been tweeting ferociously about the three-year-old power rationing which has progressively worsened.

She said promises by government that the power challenges would be resolved had not materialised because the people are being lied to.

Michael Owusu Addo, popularly called Sarkodie also accused the political leadership of taking the people for granted.

He said he was sure the power challenges will abate next year because of the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Another celebrity, Lydia Forson, wrote an open letter to the president, also expressing her frustrations at the power situation.

Celebrities in the country have called on Ghanaians to join them in the #dumsormuststop campaign.

Celebrities including rapper Sarkodie and actress Yvonne Nelson say they will hit the streets of Accra by way of a vigil slated on May 16, 2015 to register their displeasure on the erratic power supply.

Initially, the celebrities have hit at government on social media for failing to fulfill the promises of fixing the energy crisis popularly known as ‘dumsor’.

They have written to the police through their lawyers informing them of their plans to hold the vigil and a procession at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Lawyer for the celebrities, Nana Kwesi Awuah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Tuesday said though the police has not given them the green light, he is optimistic the outcome will be bright.

“We are yet to hear any results from the police but we are very hopeful that they will accept our request and allow us to express our grievances.

“They will come with candles in order to put pressure on government to as a matter of urgency do something about the dumsor. I am therefore calling on everyone to wear black to depict dumsor” he insisted.

Hmmm...  Its a pitty to learn that you are suffering for someone's inability to run things and not to even have electricity for a day is very uncomfortable let alone for 3 days.... Its really bad and this shows the extent to which things are getting worse ....

These Promises about ending "Dumsor" is not a new thing anymore and its associated failures are not new either....  We've said so much about this devastating menace known as "Dumsor" yet we continue to suffer day in day out and personally, i keep thinking about 2016 when our lights goes off...

If only the President and his associates can be made to feel just a little of our sufferings and worries, there and then will they realize the kind of suffering and frustrations, we the voiceless with no platform to express our increasing worries, are going through....

I think we've heard enough is these promises and i just wonder what other promise is next... Either way, until they begin to feel some of the sufferings we are going through, they will still not care about us and we will continue to experience this menace,"Dumsor" and its associated devastating problems... #DumsormustSTOP... #HACKGHforever..
Actress Yvonne Nelson is disappointed in the statement a member of the NDC- Haruna Halidu- posted on his Facebook page in the aftermath of her Dumsor Campaign which started trending.

The actress registered her disappointment in a series of social media posts.

She wrote;

"If what I'm reading from Halidu Haruna is true, then Ooo my goodness! I understand why we are here, in this place as a country!

"I can't believe a leader, a grown man in this country will say such a thing. He should be ashamed of himself. We have a long way to go GHANA! The movement won't stop until dumsor stops | watch this space!

The former Aide to the Chief of Staff of the ruling government in a post branded all celebrities who were above thirty and not married as prostitute.

He has now retracted his earlier statement in a new post;

“I feel embarrassed by my post against the celebrities. I was condemned both privately and publicly by my friends and party faithful. I respectfully admit that it was an avoidable blunder. I honestly and sincerely regret my action and I ask for forgiveness. To err is human.”

She also took a swipe at her fellow comrades in the limelight who had pretended not to see the #DumsorMustStop after trending for days in the media.

"I can't believe there are Ghanaian celebrities on social media pretending not to have seen OUR movement! God is watching all of you.

DKB Comedy

Ghanaian comedian, Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly called DKB, says he will soon lead a demonstration by celebrities against the power crisis in the country.

According to the comedian, who made the revelation during an interview on Rhythmz A-Z on Joy FM with Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye Saturday, the demonstration is for the celebrities to register their displeasure about the power crisis.

Ghanaians are currently enduring power rationing, popularly called ‘Dumsor’, due to shortfalls in power generation.

Several celebrities, including Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie, Lydia Forson, Wanlov the Kubolor, and Chris Attoh, have called on Government to find an urgent solution to the problem.

DKB said the demonstration, which is currently in the planning stage, will create more awareness about the #dumsormuststop campaign currently being championed by some celebrities on social media.

“It’s all for the good of every Ghana. We are not saying we want to fight his excellency, we all love his excellency but when the thing no nice, fire for come inside,” he said in pidgin.

The comedian noted that the power challenges affect the livelihoods of showbiz personalities and their work just like other Ghanaians.

“What I hope to achieve is for the government to know that there is another department of society that is hard hit by this crisis because the whole time it has always been a political affair,” DKB explained.

Hmmm... Its really bad to learn that all these issues cropping up are only sending the country into destruction... Hope it doesn't get to that.... I like the way Lydia has written the letter, its open and represent every Ghanaians whose voice is not be heard, ie those who don't have a voice or platform to express themselves about about the hardship they are going through....

She has touched so many things concerning the current devastating power crisis called "Dumsor" and i just like the way she talked about it.... The President doesn't experience anything like even 5 seconds power outage which is kind of hilarious but i wish he was is the shoes of those of us Ghanaians out there who are suffering to make ends meet and yet end up making no profit but more losses due to "Dumsor".....

I believe we all know the kind of promises that this Government  has made and FAILED to fulfill any esp. promises about ending this "Dumsor" menace.. Always deceiving Ghanaians just to buy more time to cover up for themselves... I think by now any Ghanaian who still trusts the President to surprise everyone might have given up hope by now...Trust is a delicate commodity, once you loose it, its very difficult to get it back and i think the President has lost the trust of so many Ghanaians and i guess those People just can't wait for 2016....

I like the letter and i back her decision to write many of these letters to serve as a representative for those of us who are not being thought about let alone cared for or who don't have the platform to express our built up frustrations and feelings....  #DumsormustSTOP...  #HACKGH4LIFE...
Outspoken award winning Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson has lashed out at President John Mahama for his failure to solve the numerous challenges facing the nation especially, the power crisis.

According to Ms Forson, despite the many chances Ghanaians have given to the President to make do his promises, the problems remain unsolved.

In a letter written to the President and posted on her Facebook page, Lydia Forson indicated that the general public should be aware that “the president really doesn’t care about us; we the little people we the ones who are not significant enough to be bothered about.”

She is the latest Ghanaian celebrity to speak up against government’s inability to permanently fix the energy crisis known as ‘dumsor’.

Below is Lydia Forson’s letter to President Mahama

I’ve been meaning to writing this for a while, but every time I start I’m just reminded of all the drama my friends face on my behalf every time I “speak” my mind. I’ve told them to stop fighting my battles, but well they won’t listen.

Personally I’m past caring about what people think of the things I have to say, it’s not for their benefit that I write; its for the many people who don’t have a voice or a platform like mine to express themselves.

But last night I had an encounter with a man who all but told me that I need to shut up about issues that aren’t about me or don’t concern me.

Now being the lady that I ” pretend” to be I basically tried to keep my cool and let him know, my parents didn’t raise me to be a fool. They raised me to ask questions, think and have an opinion.

So in honour of the fool who’s STUPIDTY can’t be cured I’m about to go in on something I’ve tried to stay out of, you know, just to piss him off a little. Ha, I like that, piss him of!

See I’ve kept mute of this #dumsor issue going on between my friends on social media because the last time I wrote to President Mahama he ignored me.

Chaii dude didn’t even call me !!?????

How much rejection can one take Huh?

One person refuses to marry me and other won’t call me?

Well I’m too much woman for them anyway.

Sorry I digress.

Anyway…. Mahama

Our president is like that kid in school who is always last, always gives the wrong answers and never seems to grasp what is being taught.

But for some reason you keep rooting for him, you keep hoping he will come out and shock everyone, come out and put people to shame, come out and make people take back every little mean thing they said about him.

You keep waiting and waiting until you all graduate and he’s still stuck in the same class because he didn’t pass.

I hate that I have to say this about someone I truly do admire and like many people really want him to make a change.

But when you frustrate people enough, your feelings don’t matter anymore.

The truth is by now you should know, the president really doesn’t care about us ;we the little people we the ones who are not significant enough to be bothered about.

I mean how do you believe the bulls**t he’s constantly trying to feed us about understanding us.

Please Mr.President take several seats on that one because you really have no clue what it’s like to live like us the COMMON people.

Hey I have an idea, why don’t you try having your lights off for maybe 48 hours( and thats being generous) And sleep in the heat because you’re afraid to leave the windows open, in case thieves try to break in.

Oh and on top of that add the fact that you can’t even afford a generator because you’re not making enough to buy one, and when you finally do make some money the value is basically useless because the cedi continues to depreciate.

Let’s see if you don’t lose your mind.

Then and only then will I believe you understand just about 3% of how frustrating to live in Ghana.

So really I’m not even going to address you Mr. President.

I’m going to sit here in the heat and hold my breath till you SHOCK me.( hope I don’t die from waiting)

FYI please tell your little minions who call me every time I write to you to stop, I don’t like that.

And their voices aren’t even sexy, aaah, its you I want to hear from. So if it’s not you they shouldn’t call me. They should also keep their threats in the sandbox they play in when they meet their buddies for play time; I don’t play with kids, too grown for that.

And please oh I apologize to everyone this post will offend, I already apologized the last time and hoped it would cover this post as well. But hey, there’s more to come so my apology covers all the things I haven’t even thought of writing yet.
