GUYS I AM JUST A S.H.S GRADUATE BUT IN FACTI AM VERY  VERY GOOD IN I.T . MY UNCLE FROM U.K NOW RESIDING IN GHANA DEY TALK TO ME SOME DAYS AGO THAT IN THE YOUTH ARE MAKING MONEY IN SOFTWARES CREATING OR MAKING AND WEBSITES BUILDING, SO IT ALL LANDS ON THAT WE WANT ME TO LEARN A FIELD IN I.T WEY FINISH I CAN CREATE SOFTWARES /MOBILE APPS AND BUILD WEBSITES,
SO PLEASE I WANT YOU GUYS TO HELP ME OR ELABORATE ON ME THE KIND OF FIELDS I SHOULD STUDY AND THE BEST INSTITUTION IN GHANA THAT WOULD SUITE ME

It’s no secret that software developers make good money these days. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary for a software developer in the United States is close to $100,000. But how common is it for developers (that is, people actually writing code for a living) to create an impact software? Its harder than it seems.

I personally think that the demand for internet knowledge especially in Ghana supersedes that of Software developing. Just imagine the increasing number of Schools, churches, organizations etc that needs websites and maintenance for their sites day in day out. As far as demand in Ghana is concerned, i would suggest you go far Website building.

With Regards to the institution, i dont have first hand information but i remember a friend recommended GTUC for me about a year ago when i expressed interest in Doing ICT.

Software development in Ghana is totally down as all software been used in Ghana are foreign based, software like Sage, Quick books and even Microsoft Excel are used more often for management  and business transactions, i don't see how software development is going to help you in Ghana. For every software or application that you will think of developing today in Ghana, it has already been developing abroad and have much improvement.

Games, applications and related software are not developed by individuals, usually they are companies, teams and associations that develop them, as it goes to many stages like design, development, deployment, testing and ofcus selling... This field is a very expensive and the best place to study will be abroad.

Animation have been the best choice to chose from today as most advertizement in Ghana and even our own local movies have stated using serious animations in them. For this have been the choice of many developers like zingaro and the rest, about 95% of video advertizement have animations in them

The best choice is the development of websites, this is a constant growing business in Ghana as most companies are popping each day like @Dagobert described earlier. there is always business in this field and not many people do it, there are many companies and individuals that need website but have no knowledge how and where they can get one. This will be the best choice for you on the ICT field.

keep in mind the ICT field is a very big field. One aspect of it that pays well today have been Systems and Network Administration, basically this have to do with computer networking and management which have also been in demand in Ghana for some years now. this is one field that pays really well,

About institution of choice, We have many Universities like the UDS and KNUST, that where you get certification like the 1st degree after completion, however the core of ict training in those field above can also be obtained in NIIT and IPMC which are also affiliated to UCC and other Universities abroad.

Just go through them and ask further questions for more detail

thank you guys for enlighten me ,,, but my question is that so after a successfully trained from these institutions, does one need to set up his /her own enterprise/business or apply in the big companies for instance someone who studied websites development??

Well with regards to work, there are companies been created by certain individuals in country that employs a web designer, We have most of the TV and radio stations also employs web designers these days..... that's when you are thinking of getting employment.

Working for yourself is what most web designers do, with that you can go to schools, companies, associations and give them your proposals. inside that proposal you will try to convince him/her/company why he should have a website and how beneficial is going to the companies, persons or schools. As we speak today, a website will cost from 1500Ghc to 5000Ghc depending on nature of site and what is been built for......

With Network Administration, we have banks,cafes,and other companies like mining, construction, that uses computer to do their business, in real sense every company that have two or more computers need networking to work efficiatly..... Remember you can also write a proposal to companies jusl like i eplaind in the web disign.

You are looking to school for additions 3-4 years.......... Its a very hard dicision to take, but its a very profetable one in the future i should say, With all these said the ultimate dicision is yours to make becouse its a long and dificlut road to cross alone and is your future as well.

@MIMMS94 That would solely depend on you. But most of the companies in Ghana at the moment already have the needed software etc. They only need someone with the skills and expertise to manage them and get the best out of them. Website development should be part of your portfolio as an IT guy. You can choose to master that area. Companies would hardly hire  someone with knowledge in ONLY website building. You have to have other things in the mix as well. Like Network administration as the Admin said. Unless of course it is a proposal for a contract to do just that.

I'm sure by the time you are done with the course you would know which option to go for; whether to work for someone or set up your own firm.
