Unemployed nurses, midwives to demonstrate against government 39857175.295

Over 2,000 nurses and midwives have threatened to demonstrate on July 29, if government fails to post them to various stations in the country.

According to them, their postings have delayed for six months and many calls to the Health Ministry, to rectify the anomaly, they say, have been unsuccessful.

Spokesperson for the Unemployed Nurses and Midwives, Daniel Dapaah in an interview Citi News said the demonstration is the only option to draw government’s attention to their situation.

“About 2,000 of the nurses and midwifes completed school in August 2013 and we’ve done our National Service which lasted for 52 weeks. All procedures by which we will be posted have been done but we are still at home for almost six years now,” he lamented.

“We have petitioned the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health and they are all blaming the Ministry of Finance for not releasing clearance. Letters have been sent, various follow-ups have been done but still nothing has been heard.”

About 557 nurses and midwives at the Ridge hospital in Accra in April 2015 embarked on a strike action to demand payment of their March salaries.

The salaries of the nurses and midwives delayed due to some anomalies in their electronic payment verification system.

Nurses and midwives at the Tamale Teaching Hospital also embarked on a similar exercise to demand better conditions of service.
