Juventus and Chelsea battling for Abdul Rahman Baba Abdul-rahman-baba-of-augsburg_1k8oqp0hrv4kn1prfqn5pwmi1p

The Ghana left-back has generated interest from two of Europe’s footballing giants ahead of a potential summer transfer

Abdul Rahman Baba is courting transfer interest from England and Italy, with Chelsea and Juventus both believed to be keen on his signature.

The Ghana left-back has enjoyed a magnificent Bundesliga campaign with FC Augsburg, helping the German minnows to a maiden qualification football, and looks like being rewarded with a high-profile summer transfer.

Sources in England reported earlier in the week that the full-back was being targeted by the Pensioners, with the Daily Star reporting that Jose Mourinho was keen to acquire the defender.

While Chelsea only bought Filipe Luis last season, shelling out £15.8 million to bring the Brazil international to the club from Atletico Madrid, he has not been convincing in London. The former Deportivo la Coruna man has made only nine Premier League starts this term, and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with former boss Diego Simeone interested in his services, according to the Metro.

Baba could, therefore, head to Chelsea as a replacement for Filipe Luis, to either supplant or support incumbent Cesar Azpilicueta, who impressed in Chelsea’s title-winning campaign.

However, reports from Italy suggest that the Blues face major competition from Juventus, with the Bianconeri also believed to be eyeing the international.

TMW believe that a fee of just over €10 million would be enough for the Old Lady to snare the talented defender, who made 31 appearances for the Fuggerstadter this term.

As with Chelsea, however, it’s not immediately evident how the Black Star would fit into manager Max Allegri’s plans at the Juventus Stadium.

Juve can already boast veteran France full-back Patrice Evra, who has rolled back the years in impressive style this season. Another option, of course, is Kwadwo Asamoah, who has regularly operated as a left-back or left-wing-back for the Turin giants, even if his primary position is in the heart of midfield.

Earlier in the month, Manchester City were also linked with a move for the full-back.
