Financial Unfair Play? Financial_fair_play_sanzioni_roma

When the Financial Fair Play Regulations were introduced, there were many who suspected the very format of compliance was aimed at the likes of Chelsea Football Club.

The manner in which we got in amongst the big-boys, aided by spending huge swathes of Roman Abramovich`s cash, didn`t go down too well.

One Arsene Wenger, for instance, described our style as resembling parking a tank on the lawn that fires banknotes.

However, far from just coping with the restrictions the Financial Fair Play Regulations impose, Chelsea have proven that with astute financial acumen you can manage and, in fact, we were recently held up as a shining example of how the rules should be adhered to.

But it appears that those who run our game are still not content, the belief being bandied about is that, perhaps, the rules were too harsh and that they should be relaxed a little.

Now to me that appears to be a shining admission that everything isn`t rosy in the gardens of some of the big clubs, big-clubs who may well have fallen foul of the regulations and who haven`t enjoyed the lucrative success, on the field, they might have anticipated.

One supporter of relaxing the rules is a certain Michel Platini, a Frenchman who perhaps hasn`t quite got to grips with the fact that French club football has always lagged behind the giants of England, Spain, Italy and Germany.

Over in Paris, waves are being made about Paris St Germain becoming the biggest club in Europe, the French club have already been found out when it comes to spending and suffered the consequences.

However, with Platini advocating a relaxation of the rules, you get the impression that those who have followed them to the letter, namely us, are going to be dealt a mortal blow.

This morning the inference is given in the Sunday press that Paris St Germain are looking at making two huge signings this summer to improve their squad.

There is talk of a huge £88 million bid being launched to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to Paris from Real Madrid and there is further talk of a move for the Manchester United record signing Angel Di Maria.

Whilst the Financial Fair Play Regulations were never going to guarantee a level playing field, at least everybody knew the rules and had to abide by them, now it seems that UEFA led by Platini, are set to bend them to favour certain clubs and one in particular, shame on them!
