As a former student of k.n.u.s.t who offered engineering, ..I was very happy to gain admission at the University thinking i was going to learn true engineering like actually getting work done, i even had a dream invention something new, not knowing it was going to be maths, physic and some ridiculous subjects just like the S.H.S

KNUST is supposes to be the university that have to research and provide technological solutions to Ghanians needs, We keep on learning old formulas and maths which the white man have giving those task to computers to make their life easier......

Sadly comparing my situation to Antwi (a friend of my who schooled at University of Kansas and today works for Boeing( a company that make airplanes) he is an engineer over there with his degree......

scratch I realize when i was rendering my national service at Toyota Ghana, most of the things we learned at school is not worth it. either its too old or does not apply anymore. i don't have to even calculate, temperature, speed or any elective maths or Physics...... because there are virtually machines(equipments) that can perform that task to make work easy and fast.

When i was employed at Anglogold Ashanti, i have to learn from those who never went to school, they thought me most of the things i needed to know?.. my supervisor who was a white man once told me" The university you attended  have no future because you are stuck in the past learning thing we have abandoned long time ago"

For over 40 years, Ghana haven't made any major reforms to our educational system which is very poor. This begs the question, Why Ghana?

Am a Certified Engineer with a degree, what now?

Hmm Admin I which I can swear and say that what you are saying is still happening, can u imagine a L400 computer science student, who knows everything there is theoretically, but trust me, does not even know how to install a New Windows on a computer...

I left class as qiuck as i could to spend time with the guys doing the repair stuffs to gain a knowledge which the so called classroom had notin to give...

My lecture once said Book Knowledge will never  be the same as practical knowledge and for this country even our book Knowledge is an outdated knowledge ....

God save Ghana Education

Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology have the Calais of Kwame Nkroma. A man who knew we have to develop our own technologies and learn how to make thing like cars, planes, roads, building, technologies that should make Ghana INDEPENDENT.

The DOD( department of defense) does not use windows no mac for its operating system because they have their own, what Os does Ghana BNI uses?  Universe graduate degree holders who offered engineering works in a place like Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Let see one of their greatest achievement stories.....

The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a single-seat, twin-engine, all weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The result of the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter program, the aircraft was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities including ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles

1. Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor and is responsible for the majority of the airframe, weapon systems, and final assembly of the F-22, while program partner Boeing provides the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems.

The USAF considers the F-22 a critical component of its tactical air power, and states that the aircraft is unmatched by any known or projected fighter. The Raptor's combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance, and situational awareness gives the aircraft unprecedented air combat capabilities.

University Of Science And Technology (K.N.U.S.T) Students Online Chatting Forum F22raptor

Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, former Chief of the Australian Defense Force, said in 2004 that the "F-22 will be the most outstanding fighter plane ever built." Today its a realty.

Where does a KNUST engineering graduate work in Ghana?, would he even have the skills? Our trusted leaders have lost focus when it comes to Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology,

Open you Eyes Ghanians....There is no technology in Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology , its just total rubbish, junk, Nkasiasem to a white man it like we are still bitten the bones the white man threw away centuries ago

If Ghana is giving 100 years to build a jet plan? No person in Ghana who studied engineering KNUST and also practice it in Ghana can be named upfront? we will end up going to hire the white to do that, thats why all our major infrastructure like Dam, bridges, roads are contracted to the white man to build , simply because they have learned, but we haven't

yo, the reason why we cant develop these things is due to resources.the United states spend millions of dollars in tech research,we Ghana dont have that money, nor do we have the needed sponsors or capital.finally we arent that patroitic, and always think of our own welfare first before others.
I am a computer science student here in KNUST, and i have already thought of some of the software i will be creatng or some opensource programs that i will play around with.
If you think about it, my programme is one of the programmes which need few resources.i just need a laptop with good specs, and my brain, and i am good to go.although, it is very similar to the engineering courses in a way, cause it has too many math courses.you have like, 2 computer based courses, with about 3 math courses.i hear that only the 1st year have the most courses, so i hope the i reduces from next year.

The problem is quite bigger than one would think. We need men of special ability in the helm of affairs. The educational system, as we have it in Ghana needs a complete overhaul. There's too much junk in the system. I thinks the likes of Ashesi n co are doing far better when it comes to revolutionizing education in Ghana. The rest have to take a cue from them. What we have are the same old stuff; some decades old being recycled and taught year after year. Only a few lecturers of late are trying to do things a bit different. But how far can that go?

@emmaus .  Now the United States spends 5000 dollars on each player at the world. we spent 100000 on each player to appear at the world( not to play) and we pay extra 5000 as winning bonuses for each match played. Now i hope you can compare the two scenarios and know why the United States have money to do their research......

We are not talking about open source program and laptops, the open source software is about 000000000000.1% to the technology of that jet plane.  that should be a chicken change.  A technology like stealth will cost over 200 billion, now tell me that money can buy Microsoft + Bill Gate and remember thats just 1 technology from the jet plane.

What is Stealth?

1. The act of moving, proceeding, or acting in a covert way.
2. The quality or characteristic of being furtive or covert.
3. A clever way of moving or behaving without been seen
4. Not disclosing one's true ideology, affiliations, or position or having the ability to prevent detection by radar: stealth technology.

*The F-22 Raptor can detect an enemy plane miles away, then uses electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles to hunt and destroy enemy jet without that enemy jet even knowing the F-22 Raptor was there....

*Now try and compare what you think is technology of open source software to this ones like stealth, aerodynamic, electronic

We are talking about the School of technology. it main aim is to provide technologies that world make life and work easier, technologies to protect and defend the life of Ghanians......

@WhIPL4$h, your are right about our Educational system needing a complete overhaul. We need leaders that have vision, leader that think future and the well been of Ghanian and unfortunately every president Ghana have ever had lack the vision for improve education

Now you should have known how to install windows OS in JHS computer classes, you should be creating or eventing new Operating system at the University not learning how to install OS... This is how low our educational system is...Am really sorry for mother Ghana

I quite remember during my shs days, i used to install os on the machine of our ict master. I learned it by being an apprentice while he had his head filled with theory. He was very good in theory though. imagine what we were taught.
if you wana learn ict don't expect to get it in most of our Ghanaian class rooms.

That's very true. Most of the stuff I know now, I learnt on my own. Some by research, others by various online platforms.

I remember having to take apart my Dell Optiplex GX1 system in 2003. It had a Pentium III, 600MHz proccesor, 128MB RAM. I had to fit the motherboard, hard drive and power supply in a backpack to a friend's place just to install windows XP. I had to do it that way because the system unit was too heavy for me to carry. There are other examples.

The theory from school is good but you get to the real world and you realise that you know nothing at all. Since the systems are not right, it is up to the individual to find his own way out; at least for now.
