If the man said the statement was false, the young man’s head would be chopped off, making the statement true.

Very interesting, even after the riddle have been answered, am still finding it difficult to understand the answer, can anyone further explain what going on in this riddle because am totally lost on this riddle.

the faith of the young man statement relied on what ever the man with the axe chooses to think or say; if true or false a condition, so the young man decided to use his own statement against him... thereby saying "My head will be chopped off"... It then leaves the man with the axe to judge his own statement, which he can neither accept to be true or false....

Yeah man... That is the explanation...the larger man with the axe was just outsmarted ...I guess the small man gave him a statement which has no truth but was not a lie either.. So he stood there pondering about whether the statement was true or false or both..

Wow i see, i was totally clueless about this riddle.....but i do get it now. I can only wonder the look on the face of the larger man with the axe after been outsmarted.
