On Thursday, Dairy Queen, the famous American food chain, announced that their customer data has been leaked due to a malware hack attack.

The attack has affected around 395 out of 4,500 branches of its franchises in the US. Information that was hacked contains critical personal information including names and credit card data of customers. Dairy Queen has revealed the list of its targeted branches as well as the startling fact that around 600,000 cards details were leaked.

To compensate for the damage and regain its reputation, the company has offered free identity repair service for 12 months/1 year to the victims and franchise owners including those at Orange Julius site. The president and CEO of International Dairy Queen, John Gainor, stated clearly that

“Our customers continue to be our top priority.”

More than 1000 other businesses have already been attacked by the same Backoff malware which was also used to hack Dairy Queen’s customer data, reported Secret Services. High profile retailers such as Home Depot and Target are also amongst the affected ones. JP Morgan Chase last week announced that a similar data breach in its system has affected more than 76 million families and 7 million small-scale businesses.
