President John Dramani Mahama has not yet taken a decision on recalling former Ahafo-Ano South District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Gabriel Barimah.
Media reports were rife last week that the President had reinstated the man popularly known as ’Tweaa DCE.’
Enquiries made by the Daily Graphic at the presidency about the authenticity of the reports, however, proved otherwise, as a source said that the President had not made a decision on him yet.
But a delegation of chiefs from the area has already been to the Flagstaff House to make a passionate appeal to President Mahama to reconsider his decision on the former DCE remaining sacked.
According to a statement from the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau last Friday, representatives of the Omanhene of Tepa and the Association of Ahafo Ano South chiefs paid a courtesy call on President Mahama on Thursday to plead for Mr Barimah.
The delegation was led by Nana Tweneboah Manu, the Akwamuhene of Mpasaso No. 1.
The statement said the entire district stood to benefit from his recall.
It described Mr Barimah as "a champion of development projects in the district," and therefore appealed to President Mahama to consider their plea.
A formal resolution adopted by the Association of Ahafo-Ano South Chiefs, in which they appealed passionately to the President to withhold the decision to remove the District Chief Executive, was presented.
Mr Barimah was removed from office in March this year, after making uncomplimentary comments at a public function where he was the special guest.
His mention of the Akan expression 'tweaa,' which is an interjection to show contempt to a statement made by someone, did not go down well with the government.
He was consequently cautioned by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to be of good behaviour.
Days later, Mr Barimah was said to have granted an interview to a radio station in which he was reported to have said that he did not regret his use of 'tweea.'
A statement of his dismissal, which was signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Raymond Atuguba, said, “The President, acting on the Local Government Act section 204, has dismissed the DCE for Ahafo Ano South, Gabriel Barimah, with immediate effect.”
